Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Consultant Anaesthetist The closing date is 21 October 2026 Apply for this job Job summary Consultant Anaesthetists - Two Substantive Posts Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Based at North Middlesex University Hospital Consultant Contract | 10 Programmed Activities Exciting Consultant Opportunities in Anaesthesia Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint two substantive Consultant Anaesthetists to join the Anaesthetic Department at North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) . These appointments offer an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, supportive and forward-thinking department delivering high-quality anaesthetic care across a broad range of surgical specialities. Both appointees will contribute to elective and emergency anaesthesia services, teaching, clinical governance and service development. The two posts have different specialist requirements. Post A requires substantial experience and current competence in ophthalmic anaesthesia. Post B is a general Consultant Anaesthetist post for which ophthalmic anaesthesia experience is desirable but not essential . North Middlesex University Hospital is part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, serving a diverse population across North London. Main duties of the job The Role Both successful applicants will: o Deliver high-quality consultant-led anaesthetic care across a broad range of surgical specialties. o Participate in the Consultant Anaesthetist on-call rota. o Contribute to emergency and trauma anaesthetic services. o Support obstetric anaesthesia and labour ward services. o Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. o Lead and contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities. o Support service redesign, innovation and strategic development across the Trust. o Contribute to perioperative pathways and enhanced patient care initiatives. Post-specific responsibilities Post A: Provide independent consultant-level anaesthetic care for ophthalmic surgical procedures and support the development of the ophthalmic anaesthetic service. Post B: Undertake a full range of general consultant anaesthetic duties across elective, emergency and obstetric services. Experience in ophthalmic anaesthesia is desirable but not essential. Where relevant experience is held, the post holder may contribute to ophthalmic anaesthetic services according to their competence and departmental requirements.
