As part of the City Surveyor’s Department, the Market Constabulary plays an important role in maintaining a safe, secure and well-regulated market environment. Working alongside Market management, tenants, City of London colleagues and the emergency services, our officers help ensure the Market operates safely and effectively around the clock. The Role As a Market Constable , you will play a key role in maintaining safety, security and good order across Smithfield Market. You will provide an effective 24-hour security presence, helping to prevent and detect crime and unlawful activity, protect Corporation property and ensure Market rules and regulations are followed. You will patrol the Market, control vehicles and pedestrians, monitor CCTV and ANPR, respond to incidents and emergencies, and support fire, evacuation and first aid procedures. You will investigate incidents, enforce Market rules and regulations, maintain accurate records and reports, and liaise with Market tenants, the public, City of London staff and emergency services. This is a varied role where no two shifts are necessarily the same. You will need to be alert, responsive and prepared to take appropriate action when circumstances require it.
