About Barnet Council
Barnet is a borough with much to be proud of. Our excellent schools, vibrant town centres, vast green spaces and diverse communities all help make it a great place to live and work. As a council we want to build on these strengths as we move into the future. We are growing and developing as an organisation to meet the challenges facing our borough and we are committed to working with partner organisations and residents to make Barnet even better. As an organisation, our staff are committed to Our Values: Learning to Improve, Caring, Inclusive, Collaborative – which drive everything we do.
About the role
The Public Health Intelligence Analyst will turn data, research and local insight into robust, accessible intelligence that improves population health and reduces health inequalities. Working across the council, the NHS and wider system partners, the post holder will analyse and interpret complex quantitative and qualitative information to inform strategy, commissioning, policy, service improvement and public health action.
The role will apply epidemiological, statistical, research and geospatial methods to understand population need, outcomes, service use and the wider determinants of health. It will contribute to the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and other needs assessments, health equity audits, health impact assessments, programme evaluations, performance reporting and public health intelligence products. This includes sourcing, managing, quality assuring and analysing data; identifying trends, variation and gaps in evidence; and presenting balanced findings and actionable recommendations.
The post holder will work collaboratively with public health specialists, analysts, commissioners, services and partners to define analytical questions, select appropriate methods and ensure that intelligence is relevant, timely and capable of supporting decisions. They will explain uncertainty, limitations and potentially conflicting evidence clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences, helping colleagues use intelligence confidently and appropriately.
